Ten reasons why to study "Mathematics and Computer Science" at Saarland University

  • International Master Program in English, the Bachelor program is English/German
  • No Tuition Fees - there is only a semester fee of 207 Euros which includes free ride on local buses and trains
  • Scholarships/Funding: Scholarships are available for excellent students from the IMPRS and the Graduate School (see FAQ), but even if you do not get one of these there are plenty of jobs as research or teaching assistant.
  • Low Living cost: compared to other cities in Germany, Saarbruecken is quite cheap regarding rents and livings costs in general.
  • Study Quality: in the regular CHE ranking of German universities regarding student satisfaction and research output both the Departments for Mathematics and Computer Science are ranked in the best group.
  • Max-Planck-Institutes: the highly renowed Max-Planck-Institutes for Computer Science and Software Systems are next door to the other campus buildings of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. There are plenty of opportunities in research projects.
  • German Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI): The DFKI is the leading industry oriented research institute in Germany and collaborates closely with Saarland University. Also this Institute is next door on the campus and is a good steeping stone for a career in industry.
  • Excellence Cluster and Graduate School: The German Excellence Initiative funds the Saarbruecken Excellence Cluster "Multimodal Computing and Interaction" and the Saarbruecken Graduate School with more than 50 Million Euros – no other computer science institute has attracted so much funding.
  • Research Awards: the high research reputation of the faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is underlined by the large number of awards and honors given (here you find more information)
  • Saarbruecken and Saarland: Saarbruecken has about 180,000 inhabitants and the university has about 18,000 students. The quality of life is high and there are plenty of opportunities regarding cultural activities and nightlife.
