Admission Criteria and Application

  • How does the admission process work for Bachelor and Master ?
    The admission to the Bachelor-program "Mathematics and Computer Science" is not restricted for applicants with a general German higher education entrance qualification. You can enroll directly online on the central webpage of Saarland University.
    The application for the Master-Program "Mathematics and Computer Science" can be done via the Online Portal.
  • What is the deadline for the application for the Master Course ?
    The deadline is May, 15th for the Wintersemester (starting mid October) and November, 15th for the Summersemester (starting mid April).
  • What are the requirements to get admitted in the master program "Mathematics and Computer Science" ?
    You need a Bachelor in "Mathematics and Computer Science" or a related bachelor. If you have studied mathematics with minor computer science or computer science with minor mathematics, it depends on the content and scope of the minor. A preliminary admission can also be given under the condition that you have to pass certain missing lectures from the Bachelor-program. The final decision over the admission and potential extra requirements is done by the examination board.
  • How good does my English have to be to be admitted to the Master program "Mathematics and Computer Science" ?
    For applicants from abroad we require a TOEFL TEST with at least 95/120 or an IELTS with at least 7.0/9.0. The result can be filed subsequently if the test is scheduled no longer than three weeks after the admission deadline. Native speakers or applicants, who have studied in a country, where English is the mother tongue are excluded from this rule. Applicants from India and Pakistan need to present an English test (TOEFL or IELTS).
  • Do I need any knowledge in German for the Master program "Mathematics and Computer Science" ?
    The Master program is completely in English and the working language is in general English. Thus no knowledge in German is required. We offer courses to learn German and you can get some credit points for them which count for your Master.
